Concealable Armor Explained
Concealable body armor is designed to be worn under street clothes or a uniform. The design of both the carrier and soft armor panels needs to be sleek and clean to avoid being obvious. Any fasteners on the outside of the carrier will show through outerwear. Since concealable body armor is worn against the body or over a t-shirt, moisture wicking fabrics are often used for the inner part of the carrier.
Advantage of concealable body armor
An important advantage of covert body armor is that an opponent is not fully aware of the ballistic protection. During a firearm incident an aggressor will likely aim at the largest area of the body, the chest area. This is the most natural response in a high stress situation. It is the chest area that is protected by a bullet resistant vest. The visible presence of body armor might prompt an opponent to aim at an unprotected part of the body.
Concealable armor models
EnGarde® offers three different concealable models, the DeLuxe™, the Dual Use™ and the T-Shirt™. These three models are compatible with all our soft armor panels. The Dual Use™ has two additional pockets that allow our TUFF-PRO-LW™ hard armor inserts. The Dual Use™ model is ideal for persons in high-threat covert operations where blending in is necessary for mission success.
All of our concealable and tactical carrier models are compatible with all of our soft armor panels. That compatibility allows many of our clients to purchase more than one type of carrier. A popular duo is the Puma™ front zipper vest and the DeLuxe™ undergarment vest, allowing the client to choose either a tactical or concealable vest, depending on the mission requirements.
